The 100 Day Project Approaches!
An upcoming global art challenge that you can join? Hashtags to immediately connect you with other artists on Instagram? A personal challenge well-worth the time spent regardless of the exposure? Wanna hear more?
The 100 Day Project, popularized by artist & author Elle Luna, is a daily creative challenge shared on Instagram in a community of artists from around the world. The short version is that every artist dedicates time every day toward completing a "creative action" of his/her choice--these can be small pieces/projects completed daily or parts completed daily of a larger whole. It's up to you! The range of potential creative actions is also wide--anything & everything goes.
I participated in the challenge last year by undertaking 100 days of typography--it was both a stretching and enriching experience. It wasn't always easy, but it was such an amazing learning experience & way to cultivate perseverance--if you're like me, this is a virtue to hone. And we all know what they say about practice making...well, maybe not perfect exactly, at least not right away, but it truly does help an artist evolve!
To be completely transparent, because it is indeed an undertaking, I debated participating this year. I already have such a busy spring ahead of me that I thought adding this would be too much. The thought still lingered though, which is usually a sign that I should pay attention. Then I listened to an enlightening Q&A with Elle Luna & her co-collaborator Lindsay Thomson and my thoughts immediately aligned. Nothing like a little nudge to help you know your own mind! I'll take it.
So, I'm in! What am I about to commit to? Here's the big reveal: (not yet posted elsewhere)
My Plan: To randomly select one Pantone color card daily and write a short poem/musing about what that color makes me think of, feel, and remember. I'll be photo-ing the cards and superimposing the poems overtop.
I really love this idea and am anticipating getting started! I have my deck of 100 cards on the coffee table and keep eyeing them... I can't take full credit for the project, as it was one mentioned during the Q&A I listened to, but of course the project will be personalized to me and presented in my own style. Fun stuff! You can follow my journey on Instagram where I will post in sets of 4 days (for 25 posts total) from April 4 to July 12.
If you too are intrigued by this project or are thinking about committing, I encourage you to check it out at the100dayproject.org. If you do decide to participate, let me know!
